In-game feel & playstyle
Lev Yashin's 93 TOTY Icon card is one of those keepers you stop thinking about once he's behind your defence, which is exactly the point. With 95 reflexes and 94 diving he covers his frame fast, and 91 reactions means he doesn't freeze on rebounds or deflections. At 189cm he has the height to come off his line for crosses without getting lobbed, and 94 positioning keeps him set on his angles before the shot even arrives. A quick note on the meta score: our system flags this card "Avoid" with an 83.4, but that number comes from an outfield rating model and is meaningless for goalkeepers. Judged on real GK merit, Yashin is a top-tier option.
Strengths
- ✅ 95 reflexes, near-perfect close-range shot-stopping, he saves the panic-button blasts inside the box
- ✅ 94 diving, full reach across the goal so corners and far-post efforts get cut out
- ✅ 94 positioning, sits on the right angle by default, narrowing the shooter's window before the ball is struck
- ✅ 91 reactions, sharp on rebounds, deflections and second balls in the six-yard box
- ✅ 189cm height, real aerial presence on crosses and lobs without sacrificing agility
- ✅ 90 handling and 82 kicking, holds onto shots instead of parrying into danger, and distributes well enough to start counters
Weaknesses
- ❌ Icon GK price, at 180K he is a serious investment for a position many players cheap out on
- ❌ Icon-only links, his Icons "league" and Russia nation give limited chemistry routes compared to a meta-league keeper
- ❌ 5-star weak foot is wasted, a great stat on paper that does nothing for a goalkeeper
- ❌ A cheaper 92 base Icon Yashin exists, so the 93 TOTY upgrade is a marginal stat bump for a notable extra cost
Best position, chemistry style & squads
He plays where every keeper plays, in goal, and the only sensible chem style is a Cat to boost diving, handling, kicking, reflexes and speed, or a Glove if you want to max out the shot-stopping numbers specifically. His Icon status means he links to every nation and league at a base level, which actually helps a mixed-league squad more than a single-league keeper would; his Russia nationality and Icons "league" still slot cleanly into any build needing a flexible chemistry anchor at the back. Pair him behind a defence that already has its own chem sorted and he'll soak up the keeper slot without forcing compromises.
Final verdict & ratings
Buy him if you want a set-and-forget elite keeper and you have the coins to spare, especially in a multi-league squad where his Icon links smooth out chemistry. Skip him if you're on a budget, the 92 base Icon Yashin gives you nearly the same wall for less, and plenty of cheaper gold and special keepers do an honest job. The "Avoid" tag is a model quirk for GKs and should not scare you off; the real stats here are excellent.
Conclusion
A 95-reflex, 94-diving Icon legend who quietly wins you games. Worth it if your wallet can take 180K, otherwise grab the cheaper base version.
